What is Head and Neck Cancer?
Head & Neck Cancer
Head and neck cancers (including thyroid cancers and skin cancers of the face), are increasingly common worldwide and typically affect areas like the face, neck, throat, larynx (voice box), mouth, salivary glands, nose and sinuses. Smoking, alcohol comsumption, viral (Human papilloma virüs and Epstein-Barr virüs) infections and sun exposure (particularly for skin and lip cancers) are the most common risk factors for head and neck cancers, with thyroid cancer often arising from genetic or environmental factors.
Most head and neck cancers are squamous cell carcinomas that start in the lining of these areas. Thyroid cancers mainly arise from follicular or papillary cells, while skin cancers, such as basal cell or squamous cell carcinomas, typically form in sun-exposed areas of the face. Treatments vary based on the type, stage, and location of the cancer. Options may include surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy, often used in combination. For thyroid cancers, surgery is generally followed by radioactive iodine or hormone therapy.
With early detection, the prognosis is generally favorable, especially for thyroid and many skin cancers. However, advanced head and neck cancers may require intensive treatment andhave variable outcomes. It is noteworthy that regular screenings and early intervention are key to improving long-term survival rates.

What We do?
Management and Treatments

Surgery
Our surgeons may remove the tumor along with a margin of surrounding healthy tissue. The surgeon may also remove the lymph nodes in your neck if they suspect the cancer has spread there.

Radiation Therapy
You may receive radiation therapy as a standalone treatment or in combination with other treatments such as surgery and chemotherapy.

Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy uses a single drug or a combination of drugs to eliminate cancer cells. It is commonly used to treat advanced-stage head and neck cancers.

Targeted Therapy, Immunotherapy, Clinical Trials, Palliative Care
